Where does thinking really happen?

Following my training week I am happy to share some Friday reflections with you. Where does #thinking really happen? According to the theory of the #extendedmind by Andy Clark and David Chalmers, cognition does not reside only in our brains. It extends into the tools we use, the environments we shape, and the systems we interact with. Our notebooks, our devices, our conversations — even our #organizations — become part of how we think.
This perspective resonates strongly with the work of Herbert Simon.
Trained initially as a social scientist, Simon’s curiosity led him far beyond disciplinary boundaries, contributing profoundly to artificial intelligence, decision-making, and organizational theory. He understood something fundamental: thinking is not isolated — it is structured by systems.
And yet, in many organizations today, we still see a gap.
We train people to execute processes.
But how often do we train them to think about the conditions that make those processes effective?
Do our #environments enable good decisions?
Do our #tools extend or constrain our intelligence?
Do our organizational #cultures support reflection, or just execution?
If cognition is extended, then leadership is not only about defining workflows — it is about designing #ecosystems of thinking.
This has profound implications for learning and development:
-Training should not only focus on what to do, but on how to think
-Systems, tools, and environments must be aligned with human cognition
-Reflection and sense-making become as critical as performance
In an age of AI, this becomes even more relevant.
We are not just building intelligent tools — we are co-creating extended minds. So perhaps the real question is: Are we designing organizations that think — or just organizations that act?

AI, identity, and the future of what makes us human

Yuval Noah Harari’s recent reflections at the World Economic Forum (https://www.youtube.com/live/VoRbPxyo2uU) invite us to pause and think deeply about how we are integrating AI into our lives — not only technologically, but culturally, ethically, and existentially.

One idea particularly stayed with me:

AI does not just serve humans — it begins to define us as “the watchers.”

Those who observe, interpret, and decide.

All which we are delegating to AI agents.

This raises a profound question:

Will we one day allow AI “immigrants” to exist as legal persons?

And if so, what does that say about how we define personhood, responsibility, and rights?

Our identities, after all, are built on words — narratives, laws, values, and shared meanings. Language has always shaped who belongs, who decides, and who is accountable.

So the real challenge may not be technological at all.

It may be human.

How do we reframe and protect a human identity in an age where intelligence is no longer uniquely ours?

How do we ensure that empathy, responsibility, and moral agency remain human anchors — not outsourced attributes?

AI forces us to confront ourselves:

what we value

what we delegate

and what we must never abdicate

The future of AI governance will depend less on algorithms, and more on the stories we tell about who we are.

And perhaps the most important question is not whether AI will become “like us,” but whether we are ready to redefine what it means to be human.

Women In Tech: FISM Training Agency & EVAC for EU Mobility Empowerment

Tags :

One of my professions is that of #EVAC – Evaluator of Learning and Competencies Regione Toscana, for Fismformazione I contribute to designing the architecture of examinations and I also work as a trainer.

Today, I’m especially delighted to share the story of Cinzia Trupia. At 50 years old, she chose to put herself back in the role of a #student. With a background in #marketing and a strong passion for #coding, she successfully obtained the #IFTS qualification as Software Designer and Developer Specializing in techniques for the design and development of computer applications #WomenInTech #SoftwareDevelopment.

Cinzia is a true example of what #lifelong, #lifedeep and #lifewide #learning means in practice. Her journey reminds us that:

* learning has #noage, it is #formal, #nonformal, #informal and #embedded.

* #upskilling and #reskilling are strategic choices, not emergencies.

* #curiosity and #courage are key drivers of transformation.

This is how we prepare for #change. This is how we stay #competitive, #resilient, and #forward-looking in our #digitaltransformation and #sustainabledevelopment.

Please join me in congratulating Cinzia and wishing her the very best for what comes next. Because this is the way forward: we #neverstoplearning.

Check out Fismformazione training offer https://lnkd.in/dcdrNahx. Many courses are open for enrollment and you have access to EU #qualifications. #EU #Mobility #LearningAndDevelopment.

Intercultural Training: Emotions in Motion!

Tags :

When we live as #expatriates, a wide flow of #emotions naturally emerges.

Emotions are not obstacles — they are powerful #signals and #tools for #learning, #growth, and #connection.

During a recent #intercultural #workshop I facilitated, participants explored their current experience of living in a different country. What quickly became visible was something important: the highlights of their international life often outweigh the challenges, yet the challenges tend to absorb a disproportionate amount of emotional #energy #attention.

Through an #intention and #mindset-focused exercise, participants identified the internal shifts needed to make their international experience not only manageable, but meaningful and transformative.

One powerful learning practice is #journaling. Writing creates space for reflection, emotional regulation, and #awareness. It allows us to #reframe experiences and #transform discomfort into insight.

he group opened up, another realization emerged: no one was alone in feeling uncomfortable, uncertain, or “in transition.” Naming these emotions collectively reduced isolation and strengthened connection.

#Training plays a crucial role in creating #safe spaces for #dialogue, where fears can be acknowledged and new scenarios for #wellbeing, #belonging, and growth can be co-created.

I’ll leave you with a question: What experience have you had in transforming a negative emotion into a positive source of learning?

I look forward to reading your reflections, love Elena

Humanitization through Intergenerational Dialogue

I absolutely loved Tim Ingold perspective and happy to share learnings in a nutshell in this video
Our past is in front of us. Our future is behind us. How do we value #time #presence #generations? When we bring #durability into the conversation about #innovation, we are invited to slow down and rethink our relationship with time itself. Sustainability is not only about speed, efficiency, or novelty — it is about #continuity, #tradition, and #respons-ability. As sustainability managers and leaders, part of our role is precisely this: to re-anchor innovation in time, not detach it from it. Anthropologist Tim #Ingold offers a powerful perspective on #GenNow and life. Rather than seeing “them” as a straight line/layer, he invites us to see us as a whole. To be with life and not on, a #meshwork of relationships, where we walk with those who came before us and alongside those who will come after us. #Longing and #belonging are not opposites. They are conditions for #continuity. The #future cannot exist without the shared, often invisible #undercommonality of life — the practices, values, and care that bind generations together. Innovation that forgets this becomes extractive. #Innovation that remembers becomes #regenerative. To #humanize progress is not a one-off action. It is a process. A process of listening, reconnecting, and choosing to live — not just to produce, perform, or accelerate. So I leave you with a question: Are you ready to truly live life — and to #design a future that honours both those who came before us and those who are yet to arrive? If you are ready to explore this #humanization journey, I would be glad to walk it together!

Compassionate Leadership & Workplace learning

#Compassion is not a soft skill. It is a strategic #leadership capability.

In this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoxUWeqHdbk

Tramuto reminds us that leadership grounded in #empathy, #listening, and #human connection is not only ethical — it is essential to building #trust, #resilience, and #long-term #performance in #organizations.

In a world shaped by uncertainty, rapid change, and burnout, compassionate leadership:
*Creates psychologically safe work environments;
*Enables empowered learning and continuous development;
*Strengthens engagement, accountability, and purpose;
*Supports inclusive and sustainable organizational cultures.

This book reinforces something I see daily in my work: people learn, grow, and perform better when they feel seen, respected, and valued.

If you are interested in developing training programs focused on #compassionate #leadership, #empowered #learning, and #human-centred #development at #work, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to explore how to support your #teams and #leaders on this journey. DM me or contact me directly.

What does #compassionate #leadership mean in your organization today?
